Whinney Hill from Balloch

Follow paths in Balloch Park onto path through the woods up Whinney Hill. Return along country lanes and paths.

Terrain: Good paths in Balloch Park. Muddy woodland path up Whinney Hill. Quiet lanes on the return section. Some steep gradients.

Distance: 12 km, duration 4 hrs, total ascent 300 m to max. ht 160 m.

Start point: Car park, just to the east of the Information Centre/across from Balloch Station. Distance / time from Helensburgh: 8 miles / 20 mins.

Tullich Hill from Glen Douglas

Leave 3 Lochs Way just north of Glen Douglas and ascend north east to summit. North to Monadh Tighe na Laraich trig point (447m). Descend north northeast to pick up 3 Lochs Way for return.

Terrain: Rough track on 3 Lochs Way and pathless, grassy hillside.

Distance: 10 km, duration 5 hrs, total ascent 650m to max. ht. 632m.

Start point: 3 Lochs Way parking area at west end of Glen Douglas.
Distance / time from Helensburgh:  15 miles / 30 mins.

Glen Fyne

A linear walk in Glen Fyne along the River Fyne. We will go as far as Inverchorachan or further if you wish. Good views of surrounding hills and back down the Glen to Loch Fyne.

Terrain: Quiet surfaced road and then tracks.

Distance: 15 km, duration 4 hrs, total ascent 100m to max ht. 100m.

Start point: Car Park at entrance to Glen Fyne, just off A83.
Distance / time from Helensburgh: 35 miles / 1hr.

OS Landranger: 50 & 56, Grid ref: NN 193127.

It is emphasised that ‘A’ grade walks are strenuous and should only be attempted by those with high standards of fitness and stamina and who are also properly equipped and clothed for the conditions.

Leaders will quite properly turn away those who do not meet these standards as they could create difficulties or danger for other members of the group.

Ben Vane (Loch Lomond)

From Inveruglas car park, follow Loch Sloy road to foot of south east ridge. Follow steep track to summit, returning by same route.

Terrain: Good track at first, rough moorland thereafter. Some steep sections requiring care in snow conditions.

Distance: 11 km, duration 7 hrs, total ascent 927m to max. ht. 915m.

Start point: Inveruglas loch side car park.
Distance / time from Helensburgh:  20 miles / 30 mins.

Braeval Forest Walk

A short, steep, ascent to the Rob Roy Way and a view point is followed by a long gradual ascent to a second view point. Then a short, steep, descent to the Rob Roy Way and tracks back to Braeval.

Terrain: Forest road and tracks with gradual ascents and descents and a short, steep, ascent and descent.

Distance: 8 km, duration 3½ hrs, total ascent 270m to max. ht. 230m.

Start point: Braeval Car Park on A81 approx. 1km east of Rob Roy Motel roundabout.
Distance / time from Helensburgh:  27 miles / 45 mins.
