Kinlochard and the Crannog

From Kinlochard we follow forest tracks around Loch Ard viewing a crannog before climbing a short steep section to gain views of Ben Lomond, Beinn Bhreac and Loch Ard. We return to the car park along more forest tracks to Kinlochard.

Terrain: Good paths and tracks which may be muddy.

Distance: 10.5 km, duration 5 hrs, total ascent 350m to max ht. 130m.

Start point: Car park at west end of Loch Ard. Drive straight on along the B839 at Aberfoyle and after 4.5 miles turn left, past the telephone box. Kinlochard Car Park is signposted on the right after 0.5 miles.

Distance / Time from Helensburgh: 32 miles / 60mins.

It is emphasised that ‘A’ grade walks are strenuous and should only be attempted by those with high standards of fitness and stamina and who are also properly equipped and clothed for the conditions.

Leaders will quite properly turn away those who do not meet these standards as they could create difficulties or danger for other members of the group.

Conic Hill and a "wee bit beyond"!

From Balmaha on to Conic Hill (361m) down and north east to Breac Leac and onto Gualann (461m).

Terrain: Path on Conic Hill then open country.

Distance: 12 km, duration 6 hrs, total ascent 560 m to max. ht. 461 m.

Start point: Balmaha Car Park.
Distance / Time from Helensburgh: 20 miles / 35 mins.

Beinn Udlaidh (Beinn Bhreac-Liath)

From roadside at Invergaunan follow right bank of Allt Ghamhnain for 2km then strike south west to top of ridge to summit. Return by same route or via col and summit ridge of Beinn Bhreac-Liath if time and weather permit.

Terrain: Mainly trackless over grassy slopes with better walking on the ridge.

Distance: 13 km, duration 7 hrs, total ascent 948m to max ht. 840m .

Start point: Invergaunan cottage Glen Orchy Road.

Distance / Time from Helensburgh: 50 miles / 60 mins.

Eglinton Park Circuit, Kilwinning

The walk visits the highlights within Eglinton Park including Cairnmount Hill standing stones view point, Sourlie Wood Nature Reserve, Eglinton Castle ruin and the river side walk.

Terrain: Generally good country paths and grassland, muddy in places. Undulating with only moderate gradients..

Distance: 11 km, duration 4 hrs, total ascent 130m to max ht. 50m .

Start point: Eglington Country Park Visitors Centre car park. Use the car park on the righthand side of the access road.

Cnoc Coinnich

Track up through Coilessan Glen then onto open hillside for steep ascent up grassy slope to summit. Return down north west ridge to pick up Cowal Way for return.

Terrain: Mixture of good forestry tracks and open, grassy hillside.

Distance: 9 km, duration 5 hrs, total ascent 640 m to max. ht. 761 m.

Start point: Parking at the limit of public vehicular access driving from Ardgarten Centre. Coilessan events parking area on west bank of Loch Long.
