Shortly after starting our walk, we pause, in the sunshine, on the “pipetrack”

The Gowk Stane
This rounded boulder is a glacial erratic, that is, a boulder embedded in a glacier during the ice age, transported by the ice and then deposited as the glacier melted at the end of the ice age. Legend has it that those who slide down the west face of the stone will have their wishes granted.
An enthusiastic but unsuccessful attempt to climb onto the gowk stane prior to sliding off.
