After the Clydebank Blitz in 1942, these facilities were put in place to protect Glasgow and the Clyde basin. There are the remains of four-gun placements, a control building and other ancillary buildings. Records seem to be conflicting as to whether or not the site was ever completed.
Entering Mugdock Castle
Mugdock Castle was built in the mid-14th century. During the 17th century, it was partly destroyed and a new mansion house was built within the old castle walls. In 1875, the mansion was demolished, and a Scottish baronial style house was built inside the ruins of the old castle. During World War II the house was used by the government, and was demolished in 1967. In 1981 the castle and grounds were donated to Central Regional Council.
