The first section of our walk followed the Dales Way from Buckden to Hubberholme with its splendid church nestling by the River Wharfe.

The church building is mainly 12th century and was built on the site of a forest chapel.  It was extended to the north in the 16th century.

The inside of Hubberholme church was use in the television series of All Creatures Great & Small, including the inside scenes of the wedding between James Herriot and Helen Alderson.

After leaving Hubberholme, we followed a gentle ascent up a farm track to reach higher ground at Scar House.

Our route around the hillside above Hubberholme Wood initially involved crossing a few limestone outcrops.  The path soon became a perfect grass carpet on which to walk.

We enjoyed spectacular long-distance views down Wharfedale.

After crossing a minor road at Cray, we negotiated the stepping stones to cross a burn and join a path ascending the hillside up to Buckden Rake.

Finally, we descended into Buckden down Buckden Rake, a track leading directly into Buckden's carpark.
